Hampshire Team Trials 1st April 2007

The day started at some unearthly hour of 7:00am, ON A SUNDAY MORNING! Off we all go, Dawn and Mother of daughter), Martyn, Tim, Richard, Steve (sons Dad), Jackie (Mother of Daughter) and me, oh, and yes I was not shooting by the way, something to do with the lack of a skirt, or a stick!

Arriving at 8:45am to a cold and windy field somewhere in the darkest parts of the South, we set up base camp, and headed for the tea/coffee and bacon stand!

Shooting commenced at 9:15 with the sighters, in a howling gale cutting across the range.

Our county Bare Bow Champion (Martyn Gore), shooting his Low Bow this time, got us off to a good start, 1 doz missed, two dozen missed, three, four.

Tim and Richard struggled to stay on their feet in the windy conditions, one of them better suited to the task, as having the lower centre of gravity! Both of them shooting below their par. I think they were having their own private competition.

Dawn Gore did exceeding well, despite a number misses at the longer distance, keeping in touch with Tim and Richard most of the way, in fact ahead of them at times.

Our Junior members did very well, the first time all three of them have ever shot a full length FITA round outside. The three of them struggled with the wind, but did not miss that many times.

The day concluded at about 5:15pm, being a very long, and very cold at times (me, yep, I sat in a nice warm car, I'm no mug).

Gear stowed away, we all await around the club house for the final results, and who has been picked for the Hampshire Team.

Ho, by the way here are the individual scores:-

Dawn Gore (recurve) scoring 888, Martyn Gore (Long Bow) 92, Tim Croot (Recurve) 887, (yes, beaten by a woman, Tim it happens to the best of us), Richard Portsmouth (Recurve) 889, the three Juniors scoring 887, 772 and 691 respectively. Well done to you all, not only for those who made the team, but for being there in the first place, and sticking it out all day. Click here for the Final Results.

Oh, yes the team!

Who has the biggest smile then, the middle one me thinks!
