A NEW SUNRISE ON TARGET BUTTS AT ANDOVER ARCHERS BUTTS FOR THE 21st CENTURY! |
|
It gives the Committee great pleasure in advising members that the club has secured 64 brand new Target Tech 'Atlas' bosses, similar to the one currently on trial. We have conducted a lot of research into various bosses and compiled a cost per arrow matrix to aid our decision. We have also sought and received some independent references from archers who have used these bosses for twelve months now, all of which have come back positive. Our decision to go for 64 bosses was an opportunity that could not be missed. Target Tech are looking to “showcase” their bosses at a high profile shoot to really get their boss on the radar. We have a number of high profile shoots that lend themselves to showcasing these target. The net result is that the deal we have struck is beneficial, promotionally for Target Tech, and financially for Andover Archers. The overwhelming benefits to the club and every member can be seen in the life expectancy of these bosses (90,000+ arrows and still going strong) compared to the labour intensive layered foam and the annual cost of the straw boss alternative. There are other fringe benefits in terms of cost/income/shooting time. The targets are the brain child of company Director Brett Walker, who over the past year or so has developed what is considered to be the best target archery boss available. As many archers know, boss technology has not kept pace with bow and arrow technology. There have been many attempts to improve the type of straw and layered foam buts, but these do not stand up to the modern recurve and compound bows. Carbon arrows (X10's with tungsten point) travelling at speeds approaching 250 miles per hour, and trying to stop them within the thickness of straw boss, is unrealistic, puts extreme loads onto the arrow, to a point where arrows will, and do fail. To increase the longevity of our bosses, keep maintenance to a minimum and provide superior stopping characterises for the modern archer, the 'Atlas' boss from Target Tech was the only and obvious choice. We at Andover have again taken steps to bring our boss technology to the forefront of archery with this considerable investment. We hope to take delivery of these bosses in mid July with the intention to have them available for the Andoba Double F.I.T.A. Star shoot.
